Public Meetings

Commission Meetings

The Missouri Soil and Water Districts Commission meets approximately seven times a year. These meetings are held mainly in Jefferson City. Periodically, meetings are held in various parts of the state in conjunction with tours or other meetings. During these meetings, the commission establishes policy relating to soil and water conservation issues that impact the owners of privately held agricultural land. The commission also hears appeals from soil and water conservation districts and landowners concerning these policies. These meetings are open meetings and held in accordance with the Missouri Sunshine Law. View our online calendar for a list of upcoming meetings and events.

Should you have any questions regarding the commission meetings, please e-mail Theresa Mueller with the Soil and Water Conservation Program or call her at 573-751-1172.

All meetings are open to the public unless the commission goes into closed session in accordance with state law governing open meetings (RSMo 610).

According to statute 278.080, the Soil and Water Districts Commission is made up of six farmers and four ex-officio members. The six farmer members must be appointed by the governor of Missouri. Three of the farmer members must live north of the Missouri River and three of the farmer members must live south of the river. Members cannot be from the same senatorial district. Not more than four of the farmer members can be from the same political party. Ex-officio members are the directors of the department of natural resources, department of agriculture, department of conservation and the dean of the college of agriculture of the University of Missouri.

Area Meetings

During the year, there are eight one-day meetings held at various locations throughout the state to provide training for district board members and employees. Unlike the annual conference, these smaller meetings allow for greater interaction between participants. Typically, there are no more than three main training topics presented. A member of the Soil and Water Districts Commission attends each meeting to discuss current issues and policies of the commission.
