River Observations and Forecasts
Stream flow - relative conditions in MO (percent on average)
Dots on the map below represent individual stream flow gages in Missouri maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey with financial contributions from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations. Color of each gage represents the present stream flow at that site relative to the amount of flow that normally occurs there for this day of the year. To access additional information regarding flow conditions at each gage click on the map to access the full size map and then click on each dot.
National Weather Service (NWS) River Forecasts (See Maps Below)
Most rivers within the state of Missouri forecast by the NWS are included in four Hydrologic Service Areas. The four geographic areas displayed below include river gage sites (dots) for which the NWS forecasts river levels. Color of each gage dot represents the anticipated severity of flood damages corresponding to the existing or forecast river level (see legend near bottom of this page). Forecasts for three locations in Missouri are not available in the four areas displayed, i.e. Des Moines River at St. Francisville and Fox River at Wayland in the northeast corner of the state and Mississippi River at Caruthersville in the southeast corner of the state. They are listed individually.
To view a specific river forecast click on one of the four quadrants of Missouri displayed below. In the enlarged image of selected Area click on the river forecast location point of interest. A graph will be displayed presenting river stages and flows both observed and forecast for that location on the respective river. The St. Francisville, Wayland and Caruthersville sites can be accessed by clicking on their listed names.
