TO HOST ICE FISHING TOURNAMENT JAN. 7

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., DEC. 22, 2005 - Athens Lake at Battle of Athens State Historic Site in Clark County will be the site of an ice fishing tournament for all ages on Jan. 7. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the tournament is from noon to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Participants will be divided into two age groups; the youth division is for people under the age of 16 and the adult division is for age 16 years and older. Prizes will be awarded to the top five in the longest fish in bass, catfish and sunfish/bluegill categories. Overall prizes will also be awarded for the most total inches of fish within posted limits. State fishing regulations apply. Refreshments will be provided. In case of poor ice conditions, the tournament may be postponed.

Battle of Athens State Historic Site is located 10 miles north of Kahoka on Highway 81 and four miles east on Highway CC in Clark County.
