JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 12, 2008 -- As residents of southwest Missouri begin the cleanup and recovery process following last week's tornadoes and severe storms, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources is offering guidance on everything from disposal of dead livestock to handling asbestos-containing debris.

Publications and fact sheets are available on the Natural Disaster Resources page of the department's Web site: www.dnr.mo.gov/disaster.htm.

Once immediate human health and safety issues are addressed following a natural disaster, residents and officials are left with a number of issues concerning the cleanup and recovery. The department's disaster resources page is designed to address the most common of those issues.

The department also provides local news media with a variety of print and audio public service announcements that can also provide residents with important information to help with cleanup efforts.

For additional information, residents of southwest Missouri should contact the department's Southwest Regional Office, Springfield, at 417-891-4300.
